In the news – 13 & 20 October 2015
On 6-8 October Professor Glees was invited to Israel by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation of Germany, the Foreign Ministry of the State of Israel and the IDC University of Herzliya. He was invited to join an EU panel at a special seminar on the current security crisis in the Middle East and its impact on Europe. Fellow panellists included Karel Schwarzenberg, chair of the foreign affairs committee of the Czech Parliament and former Czech foreign minister; Giulio Terzi, former foreign minister of Italy; Jacob Perry, head of the Israeli Mission to the EU and former head of the Security Service of Israel; Uri Rosenthal, former foreign minister of the Netherlands; and Jiri Schneider, former deputy foreign minister of the Czech Republic. All the EU panellists agreed that, whilst the EU (and especially the UK) shared very similar security concerns in respect of Syria and the threat of IS, progress needed to be made towards the ‘two state’ solution of the Palestinian problem with EU support. If you would like to hear more about this seminar and what was discussed you can email Professor Glees on: anthony.glees@buckingham.ac.uk.
Professor Glees was interviewed on BBC South Today during Drivetime. He was quoted in The Sun on 20 October in an article entitled “New al-Qaeda poster boy is middle-class Briton Lucas”. Professor Glees was also interviewed on BBC World News’ Global News and BBC Oxford about the destruction of Flight MH17 over the skies of Ukraine. He was also interviewed by BBC Three Counties Radio on Russian ambitions both in Syria and Ukraine.
