Professor Glees was invited to make a presentation to the All Party Parliamentary Group at their inaugural meeting in Parliament on 14 July. The group were considering the Government’s new counter-extremism legislation, and those present included (to name only a few): Lord Wolf (former Chief Justice of England and Wales), David Anderson QC (the Government’s independent reviewer of counter-terrorism legislation) and Commander Richard Walton (head of Counter-Terrorism Command at the Metropolitan Police).

Professor Glees speaks about the event: “It was a huge privilege to be asked to speak to this group – which included some of the best and most senior legal minds in Britain – and debating with them was great fun. Where there was common ground, I think, was that freedom of speech is not an unqualified right in English law, and that existing laws could cover the problem of ‘non-violent extremism’ adequately but only if they are used, which to date they have not been.”

Yahoo News quoted Professor Glees in an article titled “Europe puts its finger on the trigger”.
